Eid-al Fitr

Eid-al Fitr is a three-day celebration that takes place after the month-long dawn to dusk fasting of Ramadan. During this time, people pray together in mosques and then gather with family and friends to enjoy a delicious feast! During Eid-al-Fitr, presents are given, new clothes are worn, and the graves of relatives are visited. People are greeted with “Eid Mubarak” which translates to “Blessed Eid” and with formal embraces.

Join us in the Assembly Hall on Wednesday, August 2nd at 1:00 PM for a special presentation, and to learn more about Afghanistan!

See you there!

Our Family Council has gotten pretty small lately! We need more members. This is a fabulous opportunity to assist Ashbourne in being the best place it can be. The group meets every two to three months, delicious lunch provided, for approximately 1½ hours. Lunch times don't work for you? Our meeting times are flexible. If you would like more information, email Laurie Winder. We would love for you to be part of our group.

Bed in Summer

In winter, I get up at night
And dress by yellow candlelight.
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.

I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people’s feet
Still going past me in the street.

And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?
